Why support our work?

Jobless rates among young people of color in Chicago are unacceptably high.

In 2017, 37% of African Americans and 18% of Latinos 20–24 years old in Chicago were out of school and out of work. That’s better than 2014, when the rates were 41% and 19% for those groups. We’re working hard to keep pushing those numbers down.

—Great Cities Institute, University of Illinois at Chicago, 2019

The Great Cities Institute at the University of Illinois at Chicago gathers data on jobless rates among young people in Chicago and Cook County. Their results point to a strong correlation between employment and reduced crime in underserved neighborhoods, and are a catalyst for the AGB Foundation’s work.

The AGB Foundation is disrupting the cycle of poverty and preparing the next generation of business leaders by

  • providing real-world business and entrepreneurial experience to high school students.
  • removing barriers to educational access.
  • sharing best practices on a variety of topics for job seekers.
  • helping families with children meet their basic needs.

We can’t do it alone

The opportunities we create through the AGB Foundation can change the lives of minority students from Chicago’s poorest neighborhoods. We need partners—community organizations, schools, and civic-minded companies and individuals—to get the job done. Join us in paving the way for students of color to become business leaders or entrepreneurs. And help rebuild their neighborhoods in the process.

The Power of Partnership

We’re proud to work closely with the following organizations to further our mission. Our sponsors make it possible for us to provide workforce development, financial wellness programming, and philanthropic initiatives in Chicago’s most vulnerable communities. Please join us, and these great organizations by becoming a sponsor today!
